The contrast between the way in which the British Government has splashed out money supporting the bad banks and building societies and has ignored the claims of Equitable Life Pensioners, is stark.
The decision by the policy holders action group to challenge the British Government's decision NOT to implement the Parliament Ombudsman's report is disgraceful and another setback for over a million people about to reach pension age and retire.
Many people now face a ruined retirement, having lost some, if not all of the private pensions - Lets face it, the Old Age Pension is completely inadequate for people to have a happy and enjoyable retirement.
It seems that if you work hard, put money aside to ensure you have a good and happy retirement, you are being put in an unfair position - Whilst greedy bankers, who are to blame for this financial mess, are still paying themselves huge BONUSES.
It's not fair, it's not right, it's an outrage.
According to the Pension Protection Fund, Defined benefit schemes that are in the red, saw the funding deficit soar to £ 253.1 Billion during March 2009, three times higher that March 2008 £ 81.5 Billion.
The PPF which was set up to ensure that people did not lose their pension if their company went bust, said, 90% of the 7,400 schemes that belonged to the PPF scheme, faced a shortfall.
Will the PPF have the teeth to help pensioners who are in the scheme, to get the British Government to pay out their lost money - that remains to be seen, I really hope so, otherwise the government will be inundated with claims from new OAP's for benefits such as pension credits, etc.
What a mess - it makes me wonder whether it's worth while making provision for your old age, you may as well spend all your money enjoying yourself and claim for every benefit you can from this British Government - let's face it, we are the Soft Touch of Europe.
Bring on the next election!!
